The last I wrote about Henry was when he moved to Barcelona 2007. The writing is here.
Today I write this blog entry, simply because I’m still overwhelmed by yesterday game (Arsenal vs Leeds), where Henry scored and fired Gunners to 4th round of FA Cup (for 16 consecutive years).
He’s the Arsenal legend when he’s leaving. He’s the all-time Arsenal top scorer with 226 goals. He has his statue in Emirates stadium.
And he’s just back last week on 16-week loan deal.
So in his first game, the crowd just roared when he’s introduced as bench players, when he came in as substitute, and, especially, when he (who else) scored in 78th minute.
His typical curling to the far corner was still mesmerizing. His celebration lap ended by hugging Wenger, was so emotional.
Here is the video.
Enough said. Here is Henry and Wenger interview :
Henry :
“I came back from holiday 15 days ago. I never thought I was going to play for Arsenal again or score a winner.”
“I rejoined the club as a fan; before I wasn’t. Scoring a goal when you support the team, now I know how some of the guys who played for Liverpool or Man United or Chelsea felt when they scored a goal for the club they support.”
Wenger :
“It was a little bit of a dream, because it was a story about football you would tell some young children. Unfortunately it is not often like that in our game, but sometimes it happens.”
“He had that special finishing that he has shown tonight. That was the Thierry Henry finishing.”
