A young Jewish, Jonathan (Elijah Wood) takes a journey to his past.
He goes to Ukraine to find a girl in his late grandfather’s photo.
He is accompanied by a translator and his grandfather, with a dog.
The movie starts as a usual journey, with a simple plot.
Jonathan simply wants to meet the girl, and collecting every interesting objects along the way.
The translator simply wants to finish the trip immediately.
But the journey develops into discovery of the past life, a heart breaking story from the holocaust. This story also reveals the intersection between Jonathan’s life and his translator’s.
It is not a light movie. But since it is between two languanges, the dialog is simple and enjoyable.
And although it is not about comedy, there’re some funny scenes that make you smile, especially on the dog.
The scenery is stunning, especially at the sunflower garden.
