[soccer] Persib Bandung

Somehow, you always have the connection to your hometown or country via sport.
In my case, of course, it was Persib Bandung.

Persib Bandung

In 80’s there were two soccer teams I loved : Brasil and Persib.
Both played a very good and attractive football (of course, IMHO).
At that time, Persib’s attacking and fluid style could only be matched by Papua’s club (Persipura and Perseman).

Both Persib and Brasil had their golden generation during the 80’s.
But Brasil’s golden generation didn’t win World Cup in that era..
So Socrates, Zico, Junior, Falcao etc failed to lift the world cup in their life.

Persib also failed to win Indonesia amateur cup for two consecutive times : 1983 and 1985. Both lost to PSMS by penalties! What a heartbreaking moment.

At that time, I wondered… “In my life, will I experience Brasil winning the World Cup or Persib winning the Indonesian league?”
(fortunately the answer is yes for both hehehe).

If I had to wait til 1994 to see Brasil won the world cup.
Luckily, it didn’t take to long to wait on Persib winning the title (in 1986).
They won again in 1990 and 1994.
They even won the first Indonesian league, where amateur and professional clubs played for the first time in the same league in 1995.

Some players at that time :
Goalkeeper : Sobur and Boyke Adam.
Defender : Adeng Hudaya (the wall), his successor – Robby Darwis, Dede Iskandar, Ade Mulyono.
Midfielder and Attacker: Adjat Sudrajat (the magician), Yusuf Bachtiar (Bandung’s Maradona), Iwan Sunarya, Sukowiyono, Wawan Karnawan, Jajang Nurjaman, Sutiono.
Famous Coaches : Indra Tohir, Nandar Iskandar, Ade Dana.
Hopefully with the new generation, they can win Indonesian league again someday. I will always be their supporter (bobotoh) 🙂
