Verdict : A very funny movie to laugh (at ourselves)
This film starts with a very ‘interesting’ premise.
Take a look at human species.
Fact 1 : people with high intelligence tends to have more considerations to get married and have children.
Fact 2 : According to Darwin, variety of species most likely to be dominant is the one that has bigger capability to breed.
So.. fast forward… the IQ average will decrease and decrease.. until one point : the earth is dominated by idiot people.
This movie takes place in 2505 when a very average man and a prostitute wake up from failed hibernation experiment. They find out that the world now is full of idiot people that make them the most clever people on the planet.
The movie is quite satirical in showing how human will opt to have easy way in everything they do, like how all the shirts are with no button and that all machine’s interface are in pictures (no more alpha-numeric).
Very funny…
But this is a good movie to reflect our current condition.
In the movie, the president of USA is the former Smack Down champion.
But now.. isn’t Arnold Schwarnezeger governor (and will Rano Karno follow)?
Hmm.. look at us now.
Who is more famous : Paris Hilton or Stephen Hawking? Tukul or Kwik Kian Gie?
There was a time when we selected the most clever person to be chief of students.
But nowadays, the most popular people is easier to get voted (SMS vote??? hehehe).
In the movie, a brand of Gatorade-like drink is so famous that it is used to water the plant and crops. They even hire government official by paying him based on how many times he say the brand.
But.. look around us again. Marketing campaigns invade us from every direction. Celebrities and public figures are promoting silly things.
Truly, a good movie to reflect our way of life and how we value everything 🙂
