Menutup th 2008 dengan buku mengenai Drucker (yg butuh waktu nyaris 3 minggu untuk menyelesaikannya, padahal ‘hanya’ 248 pages), tahun 2009 ini dibuka dengan buku The Pillars of the Earth, karya Ken Follett. Cukup 2 hari untuk menyelesaikan historical fiction ini, padahal 1131 pages!<\/p>\n

Buku ini diterbitkan th 1989, tapi karena Oprah baru mengulasnya di book club selection-nya, baru deh tahu, beli & baca. hmmm she’s really influencing me in many ways<\/p>\n

Ceritanya berkisar mengenai proses pembangunan katedral, intrik, passion, cinta, kehidupan biarawan & penduduk Wales th 1120-1172, era raja Henry 1 & Henry 2. Yang luar biasa dari buku ini adalah detail mengenai gereja, katedral, dan jaman medieval di Wales dilukiskan dengan sangat baik oleh KF, yang kelahiran Cardiff, Wales ini. So descriptive!<\/p>\n

I couldn’t put it down until the very end. Really, really enjoyed the book!<\/p>\n

Things I enjoyed about the book:<\/p>\n

1. in-depth description of the architecture, proses pembangunan & visualisasi yang luar biasa mengenai katedral (inti dari cerita) juga kota\/desa (pasar, farm, penggilingan gandum) serta bangunan penduduk lainnya
\n2. Penggambaran hidup biarawan, yang menggunakan doa & meditasi sebagai inti dari hidup mereka. Diselipi kadang2 dengan cuplikan aturan dari Benedictine (vow of poverty, chastity & obedience) dan ayat (I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more – John 8:11).
\n3. Penggambaran tokoh semua yang terlibat di buku ini, komplek dan semua tokoh memiliki ceritanya sendiri.
\n4. Plot & historical setting yang luar biasa. Belum lagi transisi dari satu tokoh ke tokoh lain, diceritakan dengan cantik. Grip your heart and emotions<\/p>\n

I can’t stop thinking about the story, it’s an amazing story with a fantastic scene. Read it!<\/p>\n
