Pemilu di AS menghitung suara dengan electoral vote.
\nTiap daerah punya nilai electoral vote, yang akan diakumulasikan ke yang menang di daerah itu. Yang kalah dapat nol.<\/p>\n

Di suatu pemilu, jumlah electoral vote sama hingga daerah terakhir, yaitu New Mexico.
\nFilm ini menceritakan bagaimana satu suara bisa saat menentukan.<\/p>\n

Bud Johnson (Kevin Costner) seorang duda yang tinggal bersama anaknya, mewakili golongan below average AS. Dia janjian di hari election untuk jemput anaknya di tempat election. Tapi berhubung ke bar, dia mabuk.<\/p>\n

Nah anaknya, a very smart girl, iseng menggantikan ayahnya untuk vote (karena penjaga lagi pada lengah). Di tengah proses milih, mesin mati. Jadi voting Bud tercatat, tapi tidak terhitung.<\/p>\n

Nah serunya, vote itu ternyata menentukan karena di kotanya itu suara persis seimbang. Jadi siapapun yang mendapat suara Bud, akan jadi presiden.<\/p>\n

Kebayang serunya. Pers berdatangan ke kota kecil (Texico) tempat mereka tinggal.
\nKedua calon (Kelsey Grammer dan Dennis Hopper) berebut atensi Bud.<\/p>\n

Bud nampaknya menikmati proses ini, sedangkan anaknya malah prihatin karena bapaknya nampaknya tidak sadar ‘pentingnya’ vote yang akan dilakukan.<\/p>\n

Film ini di atas ekspektasi. Lucu sebagai kritik terhadap proses demokrasi.
\nBaik terhadap orang-orang (termasuk saya kali) yang ogah-ogahan atau asal-asalan vote. Dan terhadap para calon yang akan menggunakan cara apapun untuk menang.<\/p>\n

Relevan sekali menjelang Pemilu.
