I just finished watching The Oprah Winfrey Show<\/a> di Metro TV, ttg Amy Fisher<\/a> dan buku biografinyanya If I Knew Then\u2026<\/strong>.
\nI don’t read the book, jadi review ini bakal ta\u2019 ambil dari acaranya Oprah.<\/p>\n

If I Knew Then<\/p><\/div>\n

Ceritanya mengenai waktu Ami umur 16 tahun (lahir Agustus 1974), dia jatuh cinta pada orang yang salah: Joey Buttafuoco, umur 35 th dan punya anak juga. (cewek kalo ada pria yg menurut dia OK dan bilang jatuh cinta ke tuh cewek, pasti serasa melayang deh, begitu juga Amy.)<\/p>\n

Seperti biasa, kalo orang yang udah married ngelakuin affair, pasti dia bilang kalo engga happy dengan marriagenya. Saat itu, buat Amy \u2013 Joey adalah segalanya. Dia sampai melupakan teman dan sekolahnya. Bahkan walaupun sebetulnya engga suka, tapi atas saran Joey dia jadi an escort at a local escort service juga.<\/p>\n

Sampe2 untuk menyenangkan hati Joey yang engga suka ke istrinya, Mary Jo, dia mencoba buat membunuh istri Joey (May 13, 1992). Ini juga atas anjuran Joey! Buat Amy, dia waktu itu belum mengerti kalo membunuh itu artinya adalah mencabut sesorang dari dunia ini.<\/p>\n

Juga karena Joey bilang, kalo anak kecil yang membunuh, engga akan masuk penjara. Semua kejadian ini engga sampe setaon dari perkenalannya dengan Joey. Remarkably, Mary Jo selamat dari serangan itu dan struggles to stay alive. Joey sendiri mengingkari bahwa dia yang menyuruh Amy membunuh istrinya, malah bilang kalo engga ada affair dan hanya kenal sebagai putrinya Mr. Fisher.<\/p>\n

Untuk kasus ini dia dihukum sampai dengan 15 tahun, tapi dibebaskan di tahun ke-7. Joey sendiri engga pernah dihukum buat pembunuhan ini, tapi kemudian ketauan memang telah melakukan statutory rape<\/em> ke Amy dan dihukum 4 bulan untuk ini. Bahkan setelahnya pun, Joey selalu kena masalah dan dihukum buat prostitution, insurance fraud (dihukum setaon), dan macem2 lagi. (emang dasarnya Joey nih jaat ya..)<\/p>\n

Saking terkenalnya kasus Amy ini, ada beberapa film TV mengenai Amy Fisher, diantaranya Casualties of Love: The Long Island Lolita Story<\/strong> (dimaenkan oleh Alyssa Milano) dan The Amy Fisher Story<\/strong> (oleh Drew Barrymore).<\/p>\n

Kalo sekarang (pas acaranya Oprah), Amy, berumur 30 th telah menikah dengan orang yang 24-years older than her, punya satu anak dan sedang expecting her baby pas acaranya Oprah ini. Sekarang dia jadi columnist di Long Island Press. September 2004, dia mengeluarkan buku: If I Knew Then\u2026<\/em>. Dia hanya ingin to be a better person and working on helping her community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“… there was so much thrown out there about me, about my life, 99 percent of it was negative, 90 percent of it wasn’t even true,” Amy says. “So I said, you know what, by telling my true story it can’t be any worse than the false story that’s already out there.”<\/div>\n

Dengan bukunya ini, dia berharap bisa membantu orang, terutama ibu yang memiliki anak gadis to avoid a bad situation; hati-hati kalo si anak yg sangat percaya pada orang lain, terutama older man. A young girl can easily be manipulated and charmed by an older man, katanya.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m now starting to believe I understand a little about life. I\u2019m able to take a step back, and for the first time I\u2019m able to really come to terms with my past choices and mistakes. I\u2019m able to accept the harsh reality that I did certain things because I was selfish and lacked compassion for others. Today I\u2019m able to admit this to myself. For the first time I am truly able to see that my mistakes were mine alone. Yes, there were negative influences that came my way, but I should have walked away, told my mom, asked for help. Throughout our lives we are all subject to negative influences; it is our responsibility not to fall prey to them.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t wake up one day and say, \u201cI want to turn my life around.\u201d I just grew through the stages of life from being a teenager to a young adult to where I am now. We all go through life progressions, and somehow, no matter who we are or what we\u2019ve done, we mature and realize we want different things in life. It wasn\u2019t a thunderbolt of an idea to say, \u201cOkay, I\u2019m going to be a writer and get married and have children.\u201d You hope for good things in your life, you work toward them, but you can\u2019t take them as a given.
