London was beginning to illuminate herself against the night. Electric lights sizzled and jagged in the main thoroughfares, gas-lamps in the side streets glimmered a canary gold or green<\/em>. (E. M. Forster)<\/p>\n

6-12 & 22 March 2008<\/strong>. Hampir seminggu di London, tapi tidak pernah menikmati suasana malam. Dingin soalnya, jadi prefer balik buruan dan early morning sudah jalan lagi. Lapipula, foto kalau malam mesti bawa tripod euy. Berat deh.<\/p>\n

London-in-my-eye:<\/p>\n

1. Begitu sampai, di petugas imigrasi \u2013 dapat \u2018interview\u2019 kecil. Pengalaman baru nih, soalnya biasanya tuh kalau di imigrasi hanya dilihat di paspor dan di cap. Di Heathrow ini, petugasnya tanya2 lagi \u2013 tujuan datang, menginap dimana, sama siapa, dll. Simple questions, pun disampaikan dengan ramah cuman kaget saja.<\/p>\n

2. Prefer naik bus daripada tube (underground-nya London). Kalau harus ganti lain, suka jalannya jauuuuuh banget, terutama di GreenPark. Selain itu engga bisa lihat apa2 (phan dibawah tanah..). Kalau bus, apalagi yg double decker, detail atap aza bisa dilihat dengan jelas.<\/p>\n

3. Tentang tube lagi. Walau penuh, jarang sekali yang berbicara di dalam tube, tetapi kalau ada yang bicara; juga jarang sekali bahasa Inggris yang terdengar. Banyak sekali bahasa2 lain malah di kota London ini. Mungkin karena bhs Inggris adalah bhs kedua ya (baca: pendatang)<\/p>\n

4. Sudah baca warning seperti ini: First thing you have to pun on your luggage is an umbrella<\/em><\/span>. Tapi malah pengalaman di London, percuma mengeluarkan payung. Anginnya benar2 kencang, jadi butuh superb-strong umbrella.<\/p>\n

5. Tiap pagi & sore selalu ada orang di jalan yang bagi2 koran gratis. Lumayan, tetap update berita..pun ada sudoku<\/a>-nya buat iseng2.<\/p>\n

6. Untung di Indo makanan model KFC dan McD<\/a> mahal, kalau engga bisa2 jadi makanan pokok deh. Secara di London, kalau makan marah, ya junk food model gini deh yang paling murah.<\/p>\n

7. Lain lagi dengan yang namanya Marks & Spencer<\/span>. Kalo di Indo, termasuk mahal.. kalau buat Londoners malah murah. Bahkan sampai di suburbnya aza M&S ini banyak sekali. Yang dijual mulai dari baju (tentunya), beauty, food (snack, siap saji, bahan makanan) sampai houseware.<\/p>\n

8. Londoners suka sekali nonton keknya. Soalnya di tiap advertising yg dipasang di jalan atau di tube, pasti ada ttg opera, musical, ataupun cinema<\/p>\n

9. Kalau ada yang bilang London mahal, percaya deh kalau dia engga bohong.<\/p>\n

10. Selama di London ikut Service ala Anglikan 2X. Jumlah umat yang ikut service sedikit sekali, padahal agama mayoritas. Hmmmm.. kemana ya mereka?<\/p>\n
