She walked to the mailbox
\nOn that bright summers day
\nFound a letter from her son
\nIn a war far away<\/div>\n
He spoke of the weather
\nAnd good friends that he’d made
\nSaid I’d been thinking ’bout dad
\nAnd the life that he had
\nThats why I’m here today
\nAnd that the end he said
\nYou are what I’m fighting for
\nIt was the first of the letters from war<\/div>\n
She started writing
\nYou’re good and you’re brave
\nWhat a father that you’ll be someday
\nmake it home
\nmake it safe<\/div>\n
She wrote every night as she prayed<\/div>\n
Late in December
\nA day she’ll not forget
\nOh her tears stained the paper
\nWith every word that she read<\/div>\n
It said “I was up on a hill
\nI was out there alone
\nWhen the shots all rang out
\nAnd bombs were exploding
\nAnd thats when I saw him
\nHe came back for me
\nAnd though he was captured
\nA man set me free
\nAnd that man was your son
\nHe asked me to write to you
\nI told him i would, oh I swore”
\nIt was the last of the letters from war<\/div>\n
And she prayed he was living
\nKept on believing
\nAnd wrote every night just to say<\/div>\n
You are good
\nAnd you’re brave
\nwhat a father that you’ll be someday
\nMake it home
\nMake it safe
\nStill she kept writing each day<\/div>\n
Then two years later
\nAutumn leaves all around
\nA car pulled in the driveway
\nAnd she fell to the ground
\nAnd out stepped a captain
\nWhere her boy used to stand<\/div>\n
He said “mom I’m following orders
\nFrom all of your letters
\nAnd I’ve come home again”,
\nHe ran into hold her
\nAnd dropped all his bags on the floor
\nHolding all of her letters from war<\/div>\n
