{"id":1028,"date":"2006-09-14T20:21:00","date_gmt":"2006-09-14T20:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.edunik.com\/home\/?p=1028"},"modified":"2006-09-14T20:21:00","modified_gmt":"2006-09-14T20:21:00","slug":"puzzle-two-very-difficult-cases-can-you-solve-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/edunik.com\/home\/?p=1028","title":{"rendered":"[puzzle] Two DIFFICULT Cases, Can You Solve Them?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are two cases that challenge your systemic &amp; logical thinking.<br \/>\nSee if you can solve it, or understand it (since the second cases does not ask for answer).<\/p>\n<p>They arevery good cases because they require you to understand each small events, and then use this understanding to understand the whole case.<\/p>\n<p>Answers are provided in the next post. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Pls see below for BAHASA VERSION<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #cccccc; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">CASE 1<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\nThree persons stand in line (like in queuing), and look at the same direction.<br \/>\nThe person at the back can see the two persons in front of him\/her.<br \/>\nBut the person in front cannot see persons behind him\/her.<\/p>\n<p>They are told to close their eyes.<br \/>\nThen, for each person, a cap\/hat is placed on the head.<br \/>\nThen, they open their eyes.<br \/>\nThey are told that there are<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> THREE RED caps and TWO BLUE caps<\/span>.<br \/>\nBut only THREE caps are put in their head.<\/p>\n<p>We ask the person who stands in the back, &#8220;What is the color of the cap you&#8217;re wearing now?&#8221;<br \/>\nThe person replies, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We ask the person who stands in the middle, &#8220;What is the color of the cap you&#8217;re wearing now?<br \/>\nThe person replies, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then, we ask the person who stands in front, &#8220;What is the color of the cap you&#8217;re wearing now??&#8221;<br \/>\nThe person replies, &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I know&#8230; it is [beep]<\/span>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How could this possible?<br \/>\nAnd.. do you know what color of caps for each person now?<\/p>\n<p>Tip :<br \/>\nWhen people answer to a question, of course the answer matters.<br \/>\nBut, you need to understand the reason why he\/she answers that way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #cccccc; font-weight: bold; font-size: medium;\">CASE 2<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each year, 50 highly intelligent young monks are tested to be senior monks in a legendary monastery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From now on, for the next 60 days, all of you will stay in this great hall. You are allowed to pray, eat and sleep only.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You are not allowed to communicate to each other. You must not speak. You must not use gestures You must not stare to the eyes of your friend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After 5 days, the headmaster lines up all the 50 persons in a great hall.<br \/>\nThe headmaster told the 50 monks to close their eyes.<br \/>\nThen, the headmasters mark each person&#8217;s forehead with paint.<\/p>\n<p>He tell them to open their eyes, and says :<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have marked your forehead with paint that will stay 2 months at your forehead.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Of course you cannot see what color is in your forehead. But <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I have marked RED color for the ones who fail, and BLUE for the ones who succeed.<\/span>&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;I will not tell you how many people are failing, but <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">not all of you<\/span> are becoming senior monks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As soon as you know that you have the RED color, you must immediately leave the great hall. However, the only time that you can leave is at midnight, and it starts this midnight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, the question.<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s assume that there is no way they can see their own forehead (no mirror, no clear water).<br \/>\nAmazingly, at certain midnight (in the period of two months), all monks with RED color in their forehead will leave the great hall at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>How could this possible?<\/p>\n<p>Tip :<br \/>\nIt is easier if you have solved the first case.<br \/>\nThis time, it is not what people say.<br \/>\nIt is what they know or what they think.<\/p>\n<p>===============================<\/p>\n<p>BAHASA VERSION<\/p>\n<p>CASE 1<\/p>\n<p>Tiga orang berbaris, sehingga orang di belakang bisa melihat kedua temannya di depan. Sementara, yg di depan tidak bisa melihat kedua temannya.<\/p>\n<p>Mereka diminta menutup mata, lalu di kepala tiap orang diberikan masing-masing 1 topi.<br \/>\nMereka lalu diminta buka mata dan diberi tahu bahwa ada LIMA topi. TIGA berwarna MERAH, dan DUA berwarna BIRU.<br \/>\nTapi hanya TIGA yang dipakai untuk ditaruh di kepala mereka.<\/p>\n<p>Orang paling belakang ditanya, &#8220;Tahukah kamu, di kepalamu bertengger topi warna apa?&#8221;<br \/>\nJawabnya, &#8220;Saya tidak tahu.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Orang di tengah ditanya, &#8220;Tahukah kamu, di kepalamu bertengger topi warna apa?&#8221;<br \/>\nJawabnya, &#8220;Saya tidak tahu.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dan orang paling depan ditanya juga,&#8221;Tahukah kamu, di kepalamu bertengger topi warna apa?&#8221;<br \/>\nWalau tidak bisa lihat siapa-siapa, dia menjawab, &#8220;Tahu! Warna topi saya [beep]&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bagaimana ini terjadi? Dan apa warna topi orang paling depan itu?<\/p>\n<p>Tips :<\/p>\n<p>Ketika orang menjawab pertanyaan, pikirkan mengapa mereka menjawab seperti itu.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>CASE 2<\/p>\n<p>Setiap tahun, ada 50 calon biksu diseleksi sebuah biara terkenal.<\/p>\n<p>Hari pertama, pemimpin biara berkata &#8220;Mulai sekarang sampai 60 hari ke depan, kamu semua tinggal di aula ini.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tidak boleh berkomunikasi dengan yang lain. Tidak boleh bicara, berbahasa isyarat. Bahkan tidak boleh memandang mata temanmu.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lima hari kemudian, si pemimpin biara meminta mereka berbaris dan menutup mata.<br \/>\nSi pemimpin biara lantas memberikan tanda dengan cat di dahi setiap calon biksu.<br \/>\nDia lalu meminta semua buka mata, dan lalu berkata:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Saya telah menandai dahi kalian dengan cat yg tahan 2 bulan.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Tentu kamu tidak bisa melihat apa warna cat di dahi kamu. Tapi saya sudah tandai yang MERAH adalah yang gagal dan harus pulang, yang BIRU, boleh terus tinggal&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Saya tidak bisa kasih tahu ada berapa yang gagal, tapi TIDAK SEMUA dari kamu jadi biksu&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Siapa pun yg di dahinya ada MERAH silakan pulang. Kamu hanya boleh pulang pas tengah malam.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pertayaannya. Diasumsikan tidak ada cermin, pantulan air yg bisa membantu melihat warna di dahi ya.
