[music] 10 Doo Wop Songs

Doo wop from Wiki : click here.

doo wop group

This is an old music genre that I really like to hear recently. I was attracted to this genre mainly because of two things.

First was when I watched The Simpsons when Homer Simpson and his friends formed a quarted group (parody of Beatles). They sang β€œBaby on Board” which had a very good harmony, and that’s the soul of doo wop.

Second was when I watched Beatles Anthology, and learned how rock and roll music had its root in this genre.

Mungkin terlalu ‘kuno’ buat banyak orang, but … inilah R&B jaman 50-an πŸ™‚

Doo wop menurut saya simple. Simple ritmenya, simple liriknya (temanya apa lagi kalau bukan cinta mendayu jaman dulu, silly but sweet).

Ini 10 songs yang bisa jadi starter kalau mau coba denger.
Cari aja lagunya di library file sharing atau Youtube.

Blue Moon – Marcels
You must know a lot of versions of this song. This doo wop version really put a lot of beats and rhythm into it. This is a good sample to upbeat tempo of doo wop.

Tell Me Why – Belmont
Another simple upbeat doo wop song with simple rhythm and simple lyrics.
“Tell me why tell me why, why my heart skips a beat….”

In the Still of the Night – The Five Satins
BoyzIIMen once did the cover for this sweet song.
Shoo dob shoo dob …. (yes this is doo wop is about).

Since I Don’t Have You – The Skyliners
For rockers… you won’t miss this Guns n Roses song from Spaghetti Incident album.
That’s cover from this original doo wop song.

Zing, Went the Strings of My Heart – The Coasters
The song is actually a Broadway song (popular by Judy Garland), but Coasters turned it into doo wop harmony.

Why Do Fools Fall in Love – Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers
Typical of upbeat Doo Wop songs.

I Really Love You – The Stereos
I won’t be surprise if some Rock n Roll artists were inspired by doo wop songs if listening to this song.

To the Aisle – The Five Satins
Life is But A Dream – The Harptones
Earth Angel – The Penguins
Top three of doo wop romantic songs. Especially the Earth Angel, considered the best doo wop song ever.
