Well, definition of health can vary, but nobody can deny that the biggest threat to our health is (ironically) the way we eat and the way we live. All the top diseases are life-style related.

So, based on US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute guideline, there are three simple facts that can determine whether you have high risk or not on your health. Here they are.

1. BODY MASS INDEX < 25?

A ratio between your height and weight. Calculate your BMI by using this website. If the result is below 25, then you’re oke. But don’t let be optimistic here. Almost 60% of US adults are considered overweight using this standard.

2. WAIST LINE < 102 cm (Malee) or 88 cm (Female)?

If you have waist line more than 40 inches (male) or 35 inches (female), then you will have significantly higher risk.

3. NUMBER of RISK FACTORL

Out of these 8 risk factors, how many do you have?

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • High LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol)
  • Low HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol)
  • High triglycerides
  • High blood glucose (sugar)
  • Family history of premature heart disease
  • Physical inactivity
  • Cigarette smoking

SIMPLE RULE :

1. REDUCE YOUR WEIGHT IF –> you are OBESE

2. REDUCE YOUR WEIGHT IF –> you are OVERWEIGHT + 2 RISK FACTORS

3. MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT –> you are OVERWEIGHT + lower measure of WAIST + max 1 RISK FACTOR.
